Asheville School is a purposefully small boarding school amid the rugged mountains of Western North Carolina.
Assistant Dean of Faculty
Varghese arrived at Asheville School in 2007 as a member of the Math Department. Over the years he's helped with the Varsity Basketball Program, Academic Technology, and Community Pluralism initiatives. He is a Co-Director of the Klingenstein Summer Institute for Early Career Teachers and provides occasional feedback for Khan Academy.
ST. GEORGE'S SCHOOL
St. George’s School is a boarding and day high school for 365 students. Our 125-acre campus boasts state-of-the-arts academic, arts, and athletic facilities, and is located on a hilltop overlooking Second Beach near Newport, Rhode Island.
DR. KIM W. BULLOCK
Dr. Kim Bullock has been a member of the St. George's faculty since 1996. A veterinarian by trade, Kim teaches biology, coaches JV girls' basketball, and serves as a dorm parent. She advises the Insight multicultural student club, and has been a warm, welcoming presence to students of color for more than 20 years. Kim serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Independent Schools of New England and for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Newport.
Culver is the leader in delivering practical experience and instructors in leadership for all students and emphasizing high expectations for personal responsibility and integrity. The leadership principles we seek to teach and develop are those that apply to leaders in all walks of life. We are a boarding and day high school for 840 students located in Culver, Indiana on a beautiful 1800 acre campus on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee.
Jessica Harding is the Director of Diversity and Intercultural Life at Culver Academies, a role in which she has served since 2018. As Director of Diversity and Intercultural Life. In addition to work as Director of Diversity and Intercultural life, Jessica supports students as a Chinese teacher and member of the World Languages and Cultures department.
ST. LUKE'S SCHOOL
New Canaan, CT
St. Luke's School is a secular day school located in New Canaan, CT that serves students in grades 5 through 12. Our mission is: an exceptional education that inspires a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead.
Amber has been a member of the St. Luke's Community since 2010. Now the Head of Middle School and a Middle School French Teacher, she was formerly the Middle School World Language Department Chair, the Director of the Fellows Program, and the summer Director of i2 Camp @ St. Luke’s School.
South Berwick, ME
Berwick Academy, situated on an 80-acre campus just over one hour north of Boston, serves 600 students, Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12, from MA, NH, and ME. Berwick empowers students to be creative and bold within a culture of innovation.
Michael joined Berwick Academy in 2015 as the school’s inaugural Director of Cultural Competency. In addition to his administrative and DEI related responsibilities, Michael teaches the 8th-grade seminar, serves as a 12th-grade class advisor, formerly coached crew, and now assists with cross country.
GRALAND COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL
Centrally located in Denver’s Hilltop neighborhood, Graland serves 700+ students from Pre-K through Grade 8. Since 1924 we’ve gone to great lengths to give every child the best education possible. Why? Because we want them to reach higher and go deeper. We want them to pursue excellence with passion and intent.
Oscar joined Graland in 2017 as the school’s Director of Equity and Inclusivity. In addition to his work within the Denver community, since 2012, Oscar has been one of three Co-Chairs who lead the annual NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference.
CINCINNATI COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL
CCDS is an independent, co-educational day school with students from 18 months to 18 years. Its campus is situated on 62 beautiful acres in Indian Hill. CCDS has long been recognized for its rigorous and innovative curriculum that offers our 860 students a full range of academic, athletic, and artistic opportunities.
Angela joined CCDS in 2005 as a Lead Teacher and Team Leader. She continues to serve the greater Cincinnati area as a Licensed Clinical Counselor. Angela collaborates with the Lower, Middle and Upper school divisions to support curricular efforts that will deepen conversations as Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
The Athenian School is a boarding and day school located in Danville, California, United States. Athenian educates students in grades 6–12 on an approximately 75-acre campus at the base of Mt. Diablo, located in the San Francisco Bay area in Northern California. We cultivate the personal qualities of each student to become an integrated human being with integrity, strong moral character, aesthetic sensitivity, & physical wellbeing.
Sanjev has been a humanities teacher, dorm head, basketball coach, and much more in his six years at The Athenian School. He also brings his experience as a restorative practitioner with many community-based organizations, mostly based in Oakland CA but this work has even taken him overseas to Sri Lanka where he engaged in post civil-war reconciliation workshops for the youth.
RIVERDALE COUNTRY SCHOOL
Riverdale Country School is a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school in New York City committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good.
Monika joined the Riverdale community in 2008 as a math teacher in the middle and upper school divisions. In addition to teaching math, she is the Director of the Penn Fellows Program and Co-Director of the school's Institutional Research Team.
Tampa Prep is a grades 6 - 12 day school in downtown Tampa, adjacent to the University of Tampa and the Hillsborough River. Our mission is simple. Think, create, be yourself, aspire to excellence, go beyond. A preparation for life with a higher purpose than self.
Kevin joined Tampa Prep as the Head of School in 2007. Kevin’s roots also go deeply into the Tampa community where he serves on numerous community boards, including the Tampa Downtown Partnership and Moffitt Hospital Board of Directors.
OWNINGS MILLS, MD
Garrison Forrest School is an all-girls K-12 boarding and day school serving over 560 students. Our 110-acre campus in Baltimore Country, Maryland fosters girls to lead with confidence in a joyful community.
Reema joined the Garrison Forest School as a science teacher in 2011. In 2017, she began serving as the Head of Upper School. In addition to her administrative work, she teaches a public health class and serves as an academic advisor.
ANNIE WRIGHT SCHOOLS
Annie Wright Schools serve students from age three through high school. Annie Wright Lower and Middle Schools offer co-ed programs in Preschool through Grade 8, while separate Upper Schools for boys and girls offer day and boarding options in Grades 9 through 12. Annie Wright is proud to be an International Baccalaureate World School, delivering IB programs in every division.
Sandra Forero Bush
Sandra, Assistant Head of Annie Wright Schools, joined AWS in 2010 as a business teacher. A native of Colombia, Sandra came to AWS with several years of experience in international nonprofit work and 16 years in the private sector.
NORTHFIELD MOUNT HERMON
Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) is a boarding and day school in western Massachusetts, with 650 students in grades 9–12 and a PG year. Our community is serious about NMH's mission: to empower students to act with humanity and purpose.
Beatriz Garcia P’09, Assistant Head of School for Academic Programs and Dean of Faculty, began mentoring educators years ago, when she was part of a teacher-training program for instructors of English as a foreign language in her home country of Uruguay. Bea holds a master's degree in applied linguistics from Universidad de Jaén in Spain.

Marin Academy is a co-educational progressive day school serving 440 students from grades nine through twelve in the Bay Area, California. Think. Question. Create.
Mya joined MA in July of 2018 as Dean of Equity and Inclusion and is also a member of the mathematics faculty. Mya advises a group of ninth-graders and FOLKS (an affinity space for students of color). She also sits on the board of Next Generation Scholars in San Rafael, CA.

DR. NAOMI TAYLOR
Dr. Naomi Taylor joined St. Paul Academy and Summit School in 2019 as the school's K-12 Director of Intercultural Life. Former roles include a public elementary teacher, a professor in higher education, and leadership positions for a large urban school district. At SPA, Naomi loves to bridge theory to practice by supporting students, faculty, families, and community partners to navigate cultural commonalities and differences to create a thriving community.
CHRIST CHURCH EPISOCPAL
Christ Church Episcopal is PreK-12 with over 1100 students in Greenville, South Carolina. In addition to a surprising number of international students and families for a coeducational day school, CCES offers 43 athletic teams and a unique variety of service-learning projects so that each student can engage in activities that speak to their interests and skills.

Melanie joined the Upper School faculty of Christ Church Episcopal School in 2018 as the Religion Instructor. She transitioned into the full-time role of Director of Diversity and Inclusion in July of 2020. She serves on the DEI Guidelines Committee for NAES.

“Revive Face-to-Face Campus Recruitment: The first step in the process of diversifying a faculty is to know how and where to seek teaching candidates of color. Before independent school teacher agencies existed, representatives from independent schools went to colleges to recruit firsthand. While agencies may succeed in recruiting able candidates generally, the recruitment of teachers of color will require a more concerted and more personal effort.”

Berwick has a collaborative residency program with Lesley University designed for aspiring elementary, middle, and high school teachers. Teaching Apprentices earn their M.Ed. in one year while gaining direct classroom experience.

Teacher Resident Program
Graland Country Day School is seeking resident candidates for our Teacher Preparation Program in partnership with PEBC Teacher Residency. Participants are partnered with experienced mentor teachers at Graland and work to achieve licensure in elementary education. Options exist for obtaining a master's degree at the same time.

Riverdale is a member of the University of Pennsylvania's Day School Teaching Residency Program. Each year, Riverdale hires two Teaching Fellows to work in various disciplines while obtaining their graduate degree from Penn.
